Self Control

by James Reeves

Love? Babies? Babies are made with two people… and only two people. Are babies made with a man and another man? Are they made3 with two women? NO! Babies are made with a man and a woman! Creating life is a gift from God. It is the most incredible thing we as humans can do.

For my persuasive essay I chose to convince you that we as humans forge ourselves into the sexual nature we prefer. Particularly looking at homoexualality. The majority of homosexuals will tell you that they were “born that way” and the rest will say they found out later in life and now they “just know it’s right”. I believe that information to have a lack of information and when we really dig in, we will discover that homosexualality is a choice.

“You know how I know your gay? You rollerblade! No seriously James I was born gay. I never liked girls. I like sucking cock.” –Brand Liebrecht- Interview October 23rd, 2009

When investigating people’s sexual preferences they will tell you that they’re sexual desires are completely natural and they were just born that way. That God created them in that manner. The fact that the current DSM identifies homosexuality as a mental disorder, labeling it “Sexual Orientation Disturbance” means that it is factual information that homosexuality is a condition of our minds. ("Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders" 210-15)

In 1973 homosexuality per say was removed from the DSM-II classification of mental disorders and replaced by the category Sexual Orientation Disturbance. This represented a compromise between the view that preferential homosexuality is invariably a mental disorder and the view that it is merely a normal sexual variant. While the 73’ DSM-II controversy was highly public, more recently a related but less public controversy involved what became the DSM-III category of Ego-dystonic Homosexuality. The author presents the DSM-III controversy and a reformulation of the issues involved in the diagnostic status of homosexuality. He argues that what is at issue is a value judgment about heterosexuality, rather than a factual dispute about homosexuality. (“Homosexuality and Psychotherapy.” 22Mar2007: n. pag. Web. 22 Oct 2009.)

Neural Pathway Restructuring is a transformative process to restructure the way the mind encodes behavior. Based on recent discoveries in Quantum Physics and Neuroplasticity, Neural Pathway Restructuring allows the person to replace old destructive patterns with new desired behaviors. Instead of the traditional psychological aspect of the client as being broken, neural pathway restructuring utilizes the relationship between the person and their own “inner healer” to facilitate change.

Given the state of research, the APA (American Psychological Association) should not reject the possibility that sexual orientation might be flexible for some nor should those who are opposed to homosexuality contend that all gays can or should try to change their attractions. Therapists should be prepared to work within the viewpoint of their clients! Even if that means clients desire to align their sexual feeling with their deeply held beliefs. (Debra)

In conclusion of reviewing my research, interviewing individuals, conducting a multitude of discussions with a diverse group of American citizens I have determined that my thesis is correct.
