This spot was my first real project that I got handed with my new position at Western Power Sports. I will go into detail about the project, the pre-production, shooting the spot, and a little bit about what I did in post. But first, let's check it out!

Here is the crew wrap shot!
Going into this project was fairly nerve racking, there wasn't a lot of time and being new to a company didn't really help, not to mention not having a camera, not being familiar with the motorcross industry and yes, not every directing two dirt bikes at the same time before not to mention two world class champion athletes!!! SHEEEESH! The odds were totally stacked against me...oh and there was a hurricane!?! I'll come back to that later.
This was my first draft at the storyboards for this spot. I drew this in about 20 minutes prior to a meeting where I then needed to pitch it. I also had this script in the meeting with my pitch.
I felt like the meeting went very well, and the overall feedback was concerned that the "riding" would look authentic, but mainly the team was just surprised that I had come up with something that they had never seen before in +20years of motor cross racing. Coming out of that meeting I went to work on drawing up storyboards.
At this point we circled back around and talked in more detail as a team about the project. Which Riders, Where at, Music...the key things that would really put the spot together. The Fly team who are industry knowledgable selected to use Zach Osbourne & Justin Brayton. The only particulars I had at this stage was the following
- Shoot at night
- Two tone wardrobe
- Two riders
- Constantly move the camera
- Use stylized split screen effects
- The music track! I had this GOST track "The Call Of The Faithfull" in mind for the direction and everyone seemed to like it a lot! If you're not familiar with it, check it out! It rules!
END Part 1...to be continued.
